Tough race for 296 LMGT3s at São Paulo
São Paulo 13 July 2025
The Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3s came away empty-handed from round five of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of São Paulo. The number 54 car, driven by Thomas Flohr, Francesco Castellacci, and official driver Davide Rigon, was the best of the pair, finishing in 11th place, while the ‘sister’ number 21, driven by François Heriau, Simon Mann, and official driver Alessio Rovera, crossed the line in 13th.
At the start, the two Bronze-rated drivers found themselves at the back of the field and failed to make up ground during the opening two hours, battling in the lower half of the standings. Flohr and Heriau handed over to their Silver-rated team-mates, Francesco Castellacci and Simon Mann, who brought the Ferrari 296 LMGT3s up to just outside the points.
In the final two hours, official drivers Davide Rigon and Alessio Rovera took the wheel and pushed for a place in the top ten, occupying those positions at times during the pit stop phases. In the end, the number 54 car crossed the line in 11th place, one lap behind the leader and 15 seconds outside the points, while the number 21 finished 13th.
Despite the result, the crew of Heriau, Mann, and Rovera in the number 21 Ferrari remains second in the drivers’ championship on 76 points, 13 behind the leaders. The number 54 of Flohr, Castellacci, and Rigon sits ninth with 31 points.
The next FIA WEC round takes place over the weekend of 7 September at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, with another six-hour race.
