The most eagerly anticipated event of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, kicked off in France with the qualifying session, where the 296 LMGT3 from Ziggo Sport Tempesta and both entries from Vista AF Corse finished inside the top 12, securing a place in Hyperpole 1.
As per the regulations, the qualifying session was contested by Bronze-rated drivers. It was brought forward to the afternoon and followed by two free practice sessions in the evening, rounding off a busy Wednesday of on-track activity.
Qualifying took place in dry conditions, with air and track temperatures of around 30°C and 42°C respectively. The number 193 car of Jonathan Hui, Christopher Froggatt and Eddie Cheever III was the fastest of the Ferraris, finishing in seventh place with a lap time of 3'57"960. The number 21 from Vista AF Corse Ferrari, piloted by official driver Alessio Rovera alongside François Heriau and Simon Mann, turned in a best time of 3’58”116 to secure ninth. Tenth place in qualifying went to the number 54 Ferrari 296 LMGT3 of Vista AF Corse, driven by official driver Davide Rigon, Thomas Flohr and Francesco Castellacci, who posted a time of 3’58”632.
The number 57 Kessel Racing entry, featuring official driver Daniel Serra alongside Takeshi Kimura and Casper Stevenson, finished the session in 15th, missing out on a place in Hyperpole 1, as did the number 150 Ferrari of Richard Mille AF Corse. The latter, crewed by official Ferrari driver Lilou Wadoux alongside Custodio Toledo and Riccardo Agostini, was unable to complete a timed lap due to an off-track excursion.
On Thursday, 12 June, the LMGT3 cars will return to the track for a third free practice session from 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., followed by Hyperpole 1 from 8 p.m. to 8:20 p.m., and Hyperpole 2, reserved for the top eight, from 8:35 p.m. to 8:50 p.m.
