Drivers’ comments after Lone Star Le Mans

Austin 07 September 2025

Round six of the FIA WEC at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin was contested over six hours in challenging conditions, with a very wet track at the start that had almost completely dried by the finish. The Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3s worked their way up the field, finishing third with the number 54 car and 12th with the number 21. Here’s what the drivers had to say after the Lone Star Le Mans.

Davide Rigon, 296 LMGT3 #54: “We did a great race, crossing the line first, but losing the win because of a penalty that was hard to understand. There was contact with a Ford for which I don't believe I had any responsibility. A pity not to celebrate a success that would have been deserved. At the start Thomas (Flohr, ed.) did a great job during the Safety Car, in very tough conditions, then Francesco (Castellacci, ed.) climbed up to eighth place. At that point my race began: we managed to take the lead. Towards the end, as the track was drying, I chose to fit slicks: on returning to the track the first three or four laps were very tough while warming up the tyres, but in the final ten minutes, once we’d reached the ideal temperature, our Ferrari was flying.”

Alessio Rovera, 296 LMGT3 #21: It was a tough race, and the tyre choice complicated the final stages as the track was drying. Unfortunately, ours was not the right one, as we opted for wets. Luckily, our direct championship rivals made the same decision and also came away with only a few points.”

François Heriau, 296 LMGT3 #21: “The last two races haven’t been easy for us, but the next two, at Fuji and Bahrain, will be on circuits we like and that suit our 296 LMGT3 well. A gap of 17 points is not impossible to recover. We are confident and will give our utmost until the end to try to win the title.”
