First free practice session under the floodlights of the Circuit de la Sarthe for the Hypercars on Wednesday evening. After the first qualifying sessions in the afternoon, which determined the 12 entrants in Hyperpole 1 scheduled for Thursday, the two official Ferrari – AF Corse 499Ps and the AF Corse team entry took to the track with headlights on.
In the two-hour session, contested with air temperatures between 26 and 24 degrees Celsius and track temperatures dropping from 34 to 31 degrees by the chequered flag, the best performance among the Prancing Horse’s Hypercars was set by the yellow-liveried number 83, driven by official driver Yifei Ye, Roberto Kubica, and Phil Hanson, who completed 25 laps with the third fastest overall time of 3'26"680.
Fifth quickest was the number 50 of Miguel Molina, Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen, who completed 28 laps and posted the fourth-best time in 3'26"809.
The number 51 of Antonio Giovinazzi, James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi ended in tenth, with the latter setting the quickest time for the car right at the end of the two-hour session in 3'27"332, after 24 laps completed.
On Thursday, the cars will be back on the track for the third free practice session, scheduled from 2.45 p.m. to 5.45 p.m., before diving into the Hyperpole 1 at 9.05 p.m., which will determine the top eight drivers who will battle it out in Hyperpole 2 at 9.40 p.m. in pursuit of pole position.
