At the 93rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, after two hours of racing, the two 499Ps fielded by the official Ferrari – AF Corse team were lying in second and ninth place, with the number 50 and 51 cars respectively. At 4 p.m., the official start time, the air temperature was 21.9°C and the track temperature 27.7°C.
The two cars from the Maranello manufacturer made a strong start to the race, enabling them to make up ground in the standings. Nicklas Nielsen in the number 50, who had started from seventh place, climbed to second, shaving several seconds off the gap to the leader in the number 5 Porsche. James Calado in the 499P number 51, who had lined up 11th on the starting grid, was running ninth after two hours.
In pursuit of the Englishman in the car that won the Centenary 24 Hours is the third 499P, the number 83 AF Corse entry with Phil Hanson at the wheel, who had taken the start from 13th place.
