Ferrari Challenge Australasia completes exciting opening round at Bathurst
A new winner has conquered Bathurst’s fabled Mount Panorama in Race 2 of Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia’s opening event of the season. The conclusion of Round 1 provided the usual action and close racing Ferrari Challenge Australasia has become known for during its short time on the local scene. This second 30-minute encounter added even more excitement to a well-established rivalry that is set to be a highlight of the season ahead.
Trofeo Pirelli. New Zealander Rick Armstrong (Continental Cars Ferrari) outlasted his Australian rivals to take a maiden championship win. Armstrong withstood early pressure to build a margin ahead of a combative Jim Pollicina (Sydney Ferrari), Enzo Cheng (Ferrari Sydney) and Antoine Gittany (Ferrari Sydney). In the mid-part of the race, contact between Cheng and Gittany on the approach to Murray’s Corner gifted Pollicina second place, though Gittany suffered worse after hopping the ripple strip on the inside and coming to rest against an outside tyre wall. Consequently, Cheng dropped down the order following a penalty. Rod Wilson (Ferrari Richmond) scored third ahead of Adnan Sibai (Sydney Ferrari) recovering from an unfortunate DNS in Race 1.
Coppa Shell. David Trewern secured the class double after crossing the line first in Race 2. It was a close battle, but Trewern was able to hold on from Masahiro Taguchi (Brisbane Ferrari) and the big improver in Aemel Nordin (Adelaide Ferrari).
Trofeo Pirelli 488. Richard Moore (Continental Cars Ferrari) also made it a double in his class and made it a pair of New Zealand victories in Race 2. Moore finished ahead of Ross Tomain (Ferrari Gold Coast) and Stephen Coe (Gold Coast Ferrari), who both managed podium doubles on debut. Rounding out the field was another debutant, Frank Italiano (Barbagallo Ferrari).
Next round. Round 2 of the 2026 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia season will be at Phillip Island on 27-29 March.
