Two Ferraris will start ahead of the field at the 6 Hours of Imola, the second round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. Antonio Giovinazzi secured pole position in the number 51 499P fielded by the official Ferrari – AF Corse team: it marks the Italian driver’s second consecutive pole after topping qualifying in the season-opener in Qatar. Completing the front row was the number 83 499P of AF Corse, shared by Maranello-based manufacturer’s official driver Yifei Ye, together with Robert Kubica and Phil Hanson. Starting from eighteenth will be the other car in red livery, the number 50 of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen. Tomorrow, 20 April, the green flag is scheduled for 1 p.m. local time.
At the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, the number 51 499P was quickest in both the third free practice session in the morning and the all-important official qualifying session in the afternoon, held in dry conditions. Giovinazzi clocked the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 1’29”623, finishing 370 milliseconds ahead of the number 83 Ferrari driven by Robert Kubica. Antonio Fuoco, in the number 50 car, saw both of his fast laps deleted due to track limits, which prevented the driver – who took victory alongside Molina and Nielsen at the 1812 KM of Qatar on 28 February – from progressing to the top ten shootout.
In the decisive Hyperpole session, Giovinazzi – who shares the number 51 Ferrari with Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado – confirmed himself as the fastest driver by further improving his time, completing a lap in 1’28”920 and putting 0’’758 between himself and the 499P in Giallo Modena livery.
The numbers. As mentioned, this is Giovinazzi’s second consecutive pole position and the third overall for the Italian driver – and for the number 51 crew since their debut in the top class of the FIA WEC – having also qualified fastest at the Lone Star Le Mans 2024.
The Prancing Horse will start at the front at Imola as it did last year, when the three Ferrari 499Ps secured the top spots on the starting grid with crews number 50, 83 and 51 respectively.
