Weekend notebook: titles narrowly missed in Australia and Japan
Maranello 03 November 2025
The Ferraris’ chase for the title came up just short in the GT World Challenge Australia – where Arise Racing GT finished runner-up – and in Japan’s Super GT, where Car Guy MKS Racing had to settle for third place in the final standings.
GT World Challenge Australia. After a dramatic and unlucky finale in the season’s closing act at Hampton Downs, Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte of Arise Racing GT saw their title hopes slip away. Having arrived at the top of the standings before the round contested in conjunction with the GT Festival, the pair at the wheel of the number 26 Ferrari 296 GT3 had to settle for fourth in Race-1, following an early collision involving Schutte that forced him to rejoin from the back of the field. In Race-2, after having crossed the line in second place, a penalty for excessive speed during a Safety Car restart dropped the pairing to seventh. The title thus slipped away by just 4 points.
Their teammates Jordan Love and Steven Wyatt finished the two races ninth and sixth respectively, while the number 23 296 GT3 fielded by Zagame Autosport – with drivers Josh Buchan and Cameron Campbell making their championship debut – took tenth and eighth place in the standings.
The 2026 GT World Challenge Australia season will kick off at Phillip Island in March 2026.
Super GT Japan. Seventh place in the final race of the season, contested at the Motegi circuit, was not enough for Rikuto Kobayashi and Zak O’Sullivan to clinch the title, but the pairing at the wheel of the Car Guy MKS Racing number 7 Ferrari 296 GT3 nonetheless concluded an excellent campaign in third, just two and a half points off the top podium spot.
The GT 300Km also featured the number 45 car of Ponos Racing, with Kei Cozzolino and Takuro Shinohara at the steering wheel, finishing twenty-first, while the number 6 Velorex entry driven by Yoshiaki Katayama and Roberto Merhi Muntan did not finish the race.
